See this Google document for general info about iPad use.
What is it?Apple Configurator2 is stored on the MacBook Pro in the Library, allowing us to push out security settings, profiles and apps to multiple iPads when they are plugged in.
Why use it? To maintain similar apps and settings across multiple iPads. Security set for grades PK-5, Apps are chosen by grade level. To install updates to iOS, wifi settings, or bulk install apps without manual configuration. You will never have to re-enter our wifi password or restriction settings again! Security: the settings are unable to be removed by the end user, keeping our children safe online. Purchasing: to keep track of purchased apps and ensure we follow copyright laws. Inventory: Find My iPad is on every iPad and all can be easily located by logging into iCloud with the grade level login. |
Need Apps? All teachers receive an mCLASS iPad. These iPads can be used by all teachers for classroom use, including, but not limited to, classroom assessment. Download apps on your mCLASS iPad to make sure that the app is good for student use (passwords/ads/quality). After thorough review, and before you request addition for class iPads, make sure you find the app in the store: https://volume.itunes.apple.com/store Put link into this shared spreadsheet for easy access upon updating. Here, you can also see what other grades have requested. In many cases, we already "own" the apps. Important!
1. If your iPad isn't letting you login to apps like Reading Eggs, it might be in Airplane Mode (see top left corner near Wifi signal). Swipe up to click "off" on the Airplane Logo. 2. Do NOT uses student iPads for MClass. We can find you an adult iPad to use. 3. If you keep getting popups asking for passwords, you have entered your iTunes account info within an App, in an attempt to get an in-app purchase or update. DON'T do this, we get all apps and updates through Configurator and can't use the App Store. Bring it to the Library where we will remove the profile and then sign out of iTunes. 4. PLEASE do not remove cases. We keep close inventory on these iPads through reading the barcode on the case. If you remove the case, the iPad could be damaged AND they often don't get put in the correct case AND therefore are incorrectly inventoried. 5. June 2018 update: WCPSS has suggested we don't update apps or iOS on student iPads because they will lose the ability to load and use apps you've been using for a long time that aren't updated/maintained by the developer. 6. If an app closes immediately after opening, it wasn't loaded correctly. We can attach it to configurator and "Add Apps" -> choose that , then re-add it correctly. |
Process1. Request Apps to be added using Tech Help form.
2. Enter names of apps there, and put links in the spreadsheet. 3. We will download apps from App Store on the Volume Purchasing site, and create a blueprint with up to 6 new apps. 4. The blueprint can be added to 2 iPads at a time, taking about 5 minutes per blueprint. 5. We'll aim for 1 afternoon turnaround, per class, doing it after school. 6. You can still move apps on the home screen, arrange by use or put into folders. |
